    Provisional Surcharge 1883 (Sept 4): Surcharged "NEVIS ½ d." in black on vertically bisected 1 d. lilac-mauve, a single example and a vertical strip of four, right halves, all used on 1883 cover to Basseterre, the lower pair of the strip showing variety "Surcharge Tête-Bêche" with upper stamp showing surcharge reading up and lower stamp with surcharge reading down, lightly cancelled by five strikes of the "A09" obliterator leaving the surcharges clear. NEVIS cds below (Sept 10) and 'St. Kitts' arrival adjacent (Sept 11). Flap missing but a rare and attractive cover. Cert. RPSL (1961).rnProvenance: Collection J.
