International Postal Connections to Europe - Switzerland 1867 (May 31): Cover from Constantinople to Bütschwyl SG, franked with 1864 Arms 5 s. rose and two examples of 15 s. brown, all perf. 9½, tied by crisp "CONSTANTINOPEL 31/5" cds's in black (Tchilinghirian fig. 385). Reverse with Vienna transit and Zürich-St. Gallen TPO cds as well as Bütschwyl arrival cds (June 6). On front, '3' kreuzer CM in red crayon for onward postage beyond Austria. Some perforation irregularities and part of upper backflap missing, but a very attractive and fresh cover, illustrated in 'Die Österreichische Post in der Levante' on page 426.rnNote: From October 1866, the single rate from the Levant to Switzerland was 10 soldi for the Levant, 15 soldi for Austria and 5 soldi for the first Swiss rayon, thus this cover is overpaid by 5 soldi. Even after the change from kreuzer CM to kreuzer ÖW in November 1858, the weiterfranco markings on the covers to or from Switzerland were written in the old kreuzer Conventionsmünze.
