    International Postal Connections to Europe - Italy 1874 (April 25): Registered cover from Sulina in the Danube estuary to Rome, redirected to Florence, endorsed "Via Vienna", franked on front with 1867 coarse whiskers 3 s. green, 5 s. red and 15 s. brown, on reverse with 10 s. blue, fine and fresh adhesives, tied by "SULINA 25 / 4 74" cds of the Austrian consular service in black (Tchilinghirian fig. 840), "RECOM:" in black alongside. Reverse with 'Itzkany' transit cds and a plentiful array of Italian datestamps. A delightful and rare four colour franking of great visual appeal, sensibly opened up for display. In 1872 this rate was further reduced to 23 soldi. The Post Offices in the Dobrudja such as Sulina were closed in 1879, when this area came under Romanian rule after the 1877/78 war.
