    Largest regional expansion 1868 (April 10): Entire letter from Galatz to Paris, struck with scarce "GALATZ 10/4 68" cds in black (Tchilingirian fig. 745), manuscript '2' in red crayon for the second weight rate. French entry datestamp of Strasbourg in blue, French postal contract handstamp "A." for Austria and '20' décimes due upon arrival alongside. Reverse with Wien transit and arrival cds. A fresh and fine cover with the only Hungarian datestamp in the principalities, in addition its earliest usage being the original of the illustration used in Tchilinghirian, the cover also illustrated in 'Die Österreichische Post in der Levante' on page 307.rnNote: From May 1st, 1867 six of the post offices in the United Principalities (Bucharest, Fokshan, Galatz, Giurgevo, Ibraila & Ploestie) came under Hungarian postal administration. In the short period until the closure of all Austro-Hungarian Post Offices in the Principalities in March 1869, only one postmark was prepared in Hungary and issued by the Hungarian Postal Adminstriation, the one in Galatz as shown here. A rare cancel in use for less than a year.
