Austrian Levant Rates 1866 (April 2): Entire letter from Janina to Constantinople, franked with 1864 Arms 10 s. blue in a horizontal pair and 5 s. rose, two singles, all perf. 9½, tied by "JANINA 2/4" cds's in black (Tchilingirian fig. 509). Reverse with "CONSTANTINOPEL 9/4 arrival cds (Tchilinghirian fig. 385). Some perforation irregularities, fold through the right hand 5 soldi stamp, the cover wrinkled but rare with this special rate. Illustrated in 'Die Österreichische Post in der Levante' on page 273. rnNote: Although the Austrian rates had been unified on January 1, 1866, the Levant rates did not change earlier than October 15, 1866.
