    Austrian Levant Rates 1866 (April 2): Entire letter from Janina to Constantinople, franked with 1864 Arms 10 s. blue in a horizontal pair and 5 s. rose, two singles, all perf. 9½, tied by "JANINA 2/4" cds's in black (Tchilingirian fig. 509). Reverse with "CONSTANTINOPEL 9/4 arrival cds (Tchilinghirian fig. 385). Some perforation irregularities, fold through the right hand 5 soldi stamp, the cover wrinkled but rare with this special rate. Illustrated in 'Die Österreichische Post in der Levante' on page 273. rnNote: Although the Austrian rates had been unified on January 1, 1866, the Levant rates did not change earlier than October 15, 1866. In this instance 10 s. had to be paid for the messenger service from Janina to Prevesa and 20 s. for the Lloyd service to Constantinople.
