Impact of the Napoleonic Wars 1813 (March 8): Part paid entire letter from Smyrna to Lyon showing French framed 'CONSTANTINOPLE' and 'P.PAYE' handstamps in black with 'Milano LT' transit in red below. Prepaid '12' paras postage, and rated '14' décimes due upon receipt. The entire rastel punched and disinfected with vinegar, presumably at the border station in Kostajnica. Rare. Illustrated and discussed in 'Die Österreichische Post in der Levante' on page 102. rnNote: From May 1812 the French Postal administration established a separate postal service to Constantinople from Laibach. This cover is one of the few known before the PO was closed in late 1813.
