    1857 (Sept. 26): Ladies decorative envelope from Lecco to Vercelli, franked by 1854 Carta a macchina 15 c. red type III, fresh colour and good to large margins all round, tied by cursive "Lecco / 26 SET." datestamp, NOVARA transit in black, "A.1" Sardinian postal treaty handstamp for an item coming from the first Austrian rayon in red and "BOLLO INSUFFICIENTE" in oval in red alongside, reverse with Novara (27 SET) transit and Vercelli (27 SET) arrival cds. The cover was underpaid for a cover from the first Austrian to the first Sardinian rayon and was therefore taxed as totally unpaid, a due of '2½' (decimes) was noted in manuscript on front and had to be paid upon delivery.
