    1871 (April): 1 d. black, wmk. Small Star, rough perf. 14-16, a horizontal strip of four with single1869 1 s. brown used on 1871 cover to the Duke of Polignac in Paris and redirected to Maromme on arrival, tied by three strikes of the vertical "A10" obliterator with faint 'St. Vincent' despatch cds at left in red (Oct 25). Manuscript '7d.' credit marking in red crayon at left, withot London transit but with oval 'PD' applied there in red on obverse, Maromme arrival cds on reverse (Nov 12). A superb and very rare cover - the 1 d. black on letter being very elusive.rnProvenance: Collection Alfred Caspary, Harmers, New York, 14-15 May 1957, lot 520.
