    New Currency - Provisional Local Surcharges 1888 (March): "TWO" in black on 50 c. on 1 s. grey, wmk. Crown CA, perf. 14, an unused example showing variety "Surcharged "TWO" in Black", of fine appearance and strong colour, small part og., with "w.g.a." (Aikman) manuscript in black ink on reverse. An extremely rare stamp: just ten stamps surcharged thus, one was lost in a fire at the Belize Post Office a few years after issue, another is housed in the collection of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
