    1882 (Nov 13): Colour Trial 1 s. purple, Plate 13, wmk. Crown, comb perf. 14 all round, lettered BC-BD, the unused horizontal pair, of fresh bright colour, each stamp overprinted SPECIMEN (Type 9) in black. Produced for the intended surcharges and unissued, the sheets were destroyed Jan 13, 1886. A lovely pair with superb large part og. Just 16 examples, all from the upper left of the sheet, are recorded in 'Surface Printed Stamps' by Galland & Louis on page 184, this pair being one of just two multiples that exist, the formerly adjoining single BB is in the National Postal Museum in London Gi K8Cs = £ 16'500.rnProvenance: Phillips, 6 Sept. 1990, lot 330; Collection Layton, St. Gibbons, 9 March 1995, lot 1363; Grosvenor, 13 Oct 1998, lot 238.
