    1872 (March): De La Rue Essays for the proposed 9 d. value on cards (2), each printed in bistre from Plate 2, lettered DK, one with 'OLD' above showing white corner letters, the second labelled 'NEW' with coloured letters in corners, this last with manuscript "Approved 11 March 1872" with "2280/72" below. Some staining at edge of the card, otherwise fresh, fine and of great rarity - these being the sole examples recorded in this format Gi J96 = £ 34'000.rnProvenance: Collection Sugden, R.
