Lot# 3089 - Auction 250-256

  • Lot# : 3089 Great Britain

1870 (May): Colour Trials for the Bantam ½ d. value, with Perkins Bacon using two imperforate blocks of six (2 x 3) of the New South Wales Diadem issue, all twelve examples with waxed lower left corners to prevent re-use, the first block printed in rose-lake (marked above in pencil, B II), the second in orange-vermilion (B III), each adhered to paper. Perkns Bacon were requested to produce the ½ d. adhesive in a shade of green, however making a fugitive ink in this colour proved impossible. Two or three small spots on the blocks but charming and of great scarcity.rnProvenance: Collection 'Durham', Philipps, London, 11 Nov 1993, lot 142.
