Lot# 3037 - Auction 250-256

  • Lot# : 3037 Great Britain

1852: 1 d. red-brown on blued paper, pl. 135, lettered IA-IE / JA-JE / KA-KE / LA-LE, an unused block of twenty with large even margins all round and adjoining stamps at right and at top, with full sheet margin at left showing the full CIRCULAR FLORAL ORNAMENT and part imprint 'the Labels ABOVE the Address and towards the RIGHT HAND SIDE of the Letter.' Of dramatic and wonderfully fresh appearance, the largest recorded unused multiple from this Plate - it should be noted that the sheets, being large, were normally split centrally to accomodate them at the Post Office counters, thus the Ornaments are extreme rarities, this block with an unobtrusive horizontal crease and large part og. A magnificent and stunning multiple for the connoisseur Gi B2 = £ 16'500+.rnrn
