    1840: 1 d. black, Plate 1b, lettered JC, a used example with large margins all round, on 1840 cover to Minchinhampton, tied by Maltese Cross in red. The fine stamp showing re-cut larger lettering especially noticeable on the "C" square. Reverse with double arc "Gloucester" despatch cds (Nov 22) in black. A fine and attractive usage Gi AS4c = £ 700+.
