    1840: 1 d. black, Plate 8, lettered EG, a used example with large margins all round and portion of adjoining stamp at right, variety "Inverted Watermark" tied to 1840 entire letter by two strikes of the orange Liverpool Maltese Cross. Reverse with "Liverpool" double arc cds in same ink (Nov 3). Most of the Inverted Watermark varieties are found on Plates 1a and 1b as the printer, J. Graham, to whom Plate 1 was delivered for daily printing, was much more careless than his colleagues. Rare and fine entire Gi AS46d = £ 3'750 off cover.
