Lithographed by Henri Gillet 1854 (April-August): 5 c. pale red-brown, a superb horizontal strip of six in a rosy pastel shade of fine impression, with clear to mostly huge margins all round with portions of adjoining stamps at left and at right, used on the famous 1855 cover from Cauqenes to Valparaiso at 1½ ounce rate, internally docketed Oct 29, tied by eight strikes of the six barred target handstamp with CAUQUENES straight line despatch handstamp in red below. Illustrated in 'Chile First Issues of Postage Stamps 1853-1867' by Gerhard Blank on colour plate 12. Minor central file fold does not detract from the appearance of a quite stunningly attractive and beautiful cover. Cert. BPA (1992).rnProvenance: Collection Jean Dupont, Balasse, May 1981, lot 418; Collection Gerhard Blank, RL, Dec 1991, lot 1072.
