    1869 (Aug 2): Entire letter from Valparaiso to New York endorsed 'per Steamer via Panama', mailed at British P.O. and struck with fine Crown PAID AT VALPARAISO in red (with full stop after Valparaiso) with double arc cds of despatch in black on reverse (Aug 3). British P.O. PANAMA cds of transit (Aug 20) and circular 'Steamship / 20' applied on arrival with manuscript docketing of receipt (Sept 2). A fine and unusually late usage of the Crown Paid handstamp Gi. CC2 = £ 500/Scott = $ 525.rnProvenance: Corinphila sale 90, Oct 1994, lot 6473.
