    1877 (May): New Printings on coarse soft white paper, 1 d. brick-red, imperforate, optd. Type 4 in black, clear to good margins all round, used on 1877 Soldier's Letter at concessionary rate, endorsed "From Pte. J.H.Beardsell 1/13th Light Infantry" and countersigned by Commanding Officer, tied by circular numeral "1" obliterator with PRETORIA / Z.A.R. / ZUID AFRIKA datestamp at left (Aug 24). 'Cape Town / Cape Colony' transit cds (Sept 3) and Burnley arrival cds (Oct 2) on reverse. Struck with "1d." charge marking in black on obverse. Cover #13 in the Jorgensen census. A fine example of this rare usage. Cert. PFSA (1985).rnrnNote: Countersigned by Lt. Colonel R.B. Montgomery, Commander at Headquarters, Pretoria until late 1877.
