    1907: Keyplate Essay for proposed £ 10 value, with central headplate vignette printed in deep purple sunk into surround card, 80 x 85 mm., hand-painted in deep purple with further layer applied for the frame with upper label TEN POUNDS, lower label ORANGE RIVER COLONY and showing POSTAGE and REVENUE at sides, picked out in Chinese white on green and deep green. Dated in upper right "March 8th 07" and further manuscript "Name of Colony and Duty to be left blank". Unadopted by the ORC but an extraordinarily beautiful Essay from this iconic issue.rnrnProvenance: Spink, London, 5 April 2006, lot 861.
