Overprinted "G.W." in small (2½ mm.) Roman Capitals 1877 (March 1): Cape 4 d. blue, wmk. CC, optd. 'G.W.' in red, a vertical pair cancelled by numeral "1" of Kimberley, used in combination with Transvaal June 1877 6 d. dull blue on coarse soft white paper (Gi. 103), close to large margins with portions of adjoining stamps on two sides, on 1877 cover from Pretoria to Nijmegen, Netherlands, cancelled by circular "1" numeral handstamp. 'Pretoria / Zuid-Afrika' cds alongside and 'Cape Town / Cape Colony' transit cds (May 22) in black on front with "2½d." credit marking in red and 'London / Paid' transit in red (June 16). Reverse with Nijmegen cds and circular CONSULAT DE BELGIQUE DANS LA REPUBLIQUE SUD-AFRICAINE cachet in blue. Manuscript docketing 'Pretoria 9 Mai 1877, hier 17 Juni' on obverse. One of only seven recorded covers with Griqualand West & Transvaal adhesives (Jorgensen census #6) and the second earliest recorded and sole example to the Netherlands.
