    'Mafeking Besieged' Type 2 on Stamps of the Bechuanaland Protectorate 1900 (March 27): Surcharged 3 d. on 1 d. lilac, a vertical and horizontal pair and 6 d. on 2 d. green & carmine in a horizontal pair, used on 1900 envelope addressed to "Mr. S. S. Sargent, De Kock's Corner, Mafeking" all tied by six strikes of the MAFEKING / C.G.H. datestamp (May 7) in black with manuscript endorsement '2/-' at left. Envelope with small repair at top to close the opening tears above the adhesives and top flap missing but a rare and most attractive cover.rnrnProvenance: Collection 'Maximus', Sotheby's, London, 8 Sept 1989, lot 636, prior to the cover's repair.
