    'Mafeking Besieged' Type 2 on Stamps of the Bechuanaland Protectorate 1900 (April 1): Surcharged 3 d. on 1 d. lilac, a used block of four on Northern route cover to Bulawayo, tied by two strikes of the MAFEKING / C.G.H. datestamp (April 1) and thus mailed on First Day of Issue. Checker's manuscript '1/-' and 'JN' alongside as accepted by John Nevett the checking clerk, and PASSED / PRESS CENSOR in violet at left. Reverse with 'Bulawayo / Rhodesia' cds of receipt (April 5). A remarkable and very rare cover - believed to be the sole known block on letter. Cert.
