    1855/63: 1 s. deep dark green on white paper, a used example with large even margins all round, tied by CGH obliterator to 1861 cover to Derby endorsed 'per Mail Str. Athens'.  Fine CAPE PACKET / DEVONPORT circular datestamp alongside in black (Jan 25, 1862). Reverse with oval framed SIMONS-TOWN datestmp in red and CAPE TOWN / CAPE OF GOOD HOPE circular datestamp (Dec 26) in red with London and Derby cds's in black (Jan 27). A charming and scarce cover.rnrnNote: Addressed to Colonel Gawler in Friar Gate, Derby. Colonel George Gawler (1775-1869), fought at Waterloo and was the second Governor of South Australia from 1838-1841. His wife, née Maria Cox, was the niece of the author Samuel Richardson.
