1800 (Sept 19): Entire letter from Munich to Strasbourg, written by General Eblé, Commander of the Artillery of the Arms of the Rhine, struck with '3 E DON. / ARM. DU RHIN' in black (Reinhardt = 750 pts). Reverse with further '3' handstamp in black. General Elbé (17587-1812) commanded the bridging train during the invasion of Russia and is best known for his action in Nov 1812 in saving the remnants of the Grand Armée by bridging the Beresina.
