    1884/90: 1 d. deep carmine, a horizontal pair used on 1890 cover to a Lance Corporal in the Bechuna Border Police, Macloutsie, Bechuanaland tied by hooded East London datestamps (May 13). Reverse with fine strikes of ‘MIDLAND T.P.O. / UP’ cds (May 14), ‘Vryburg’ cds (May 15), ‘Mafeking / Bechuanaland’ (May 17) and eventual ‘Macloutsi’ arrival (May 22). Some minor faults but a scarce usage.                                       rn
