    1853 (July): 4 d. deep blue on lightly blued paper, used example with large margins all round used on 1857 Moravian Missionary entire letter written from Leopold Baur (Rev. Leopold Richard Baur, 1825-1889, a pharmacist, botanical collector and Monrovian missionary) in Shiloh to Cape Town tied by CGH obliterator with earliest recorded use of oval WHITTLESEA datestamp in black adjacent (May 21). Reverse with oval CAPE TOWN arrival in red (May 29). The letter, written in German Sütterlin-Schrift, states "We do not hear a lot of the Kaffirs (Xhosas) but they still seem to be fighting. A large number of them are in the Colony but here as well..". Sold together with a splendid article on the letter (SA Philatelist, February 1994) by Murray Graham.
