    1873 (July): 1 d. brown, wmk. NZ, perf. 12½, the extraordinary pair used on 1873 cover from Cambridge addressed to Donald Maclean CMG in Wellington, tied by CAMBRIDGE cds in black (Sept 10) and by "1" numeral obliterator of Auckland. Reverse with Auckland cds (Sept 12) and Wellington arrival cds. The stamps lifted for checking and hinged back to the cover. An extraordinary rarity on cover and a major rarity of the Chalon Head era. Cert. In 1867 he introduced a law providing for four Maori electorates in Parliament from 1868.
