    1853/55: Essay prepared by Perkins, Bacon & Co., showing the Chalon half-length portrait engraved by William Humphrys printed in black on smooth surfaced white paper (76 x 50 mm.), with superb cross-hatched 'engine-turned' background and circular frame divided from the portrait by white circle (State 2). Rare and most attractive frontispiece for a specialised Chalon collection.
