    Ballon Monté No. 54 1871: 'Ballon-Poste' No. 18 written to Vire, forwarded to St. Hilaire du Harcouet, franked by 1870 Siège 20 c. blue (corner fault), tied by Paris Star '26' with "PARIS GARE DU NORD 3 JANV. 71" despatch cds alongside, reverse with transit cds and arrival cds's (Jan 22). This item was flown from besieged Paris on the 54th Ballon 'Newton'. Tatty appearance, but an interesting item, cert. Roumet (2016)  Maury = € 1'000+.
