    Ballon Monté No. 30 1870 (Nov 15): Entire letter written from besieged Paris to St. James, Normandy endorsed 'Par Ballon Monté' at top, franked by 1870 Siège 20 c. blue, 'pli confié', entrusted to 'La Compagnie des Aéronautes' with fine strike of the large circular 'République Française / Dartois & Yon / Aéronautes / Du / Gouvernement' cachet in red on reverse, the entire flown on the Ballon Général Uhrich and the adhesive tied on arrival by LUZARCHES datestamp in black (Nov 20, first levée). Avranches cds on reverse (Nov 24) and St. James arrival cds alongside (Nov 25). The cover was re-addressed to Nemours with P.P. in manuscript at top. An extraordinary cover, the sole recorded with the Aerostiers cachet. Signed Brun. Cert. Brun (2017) Maury = € 40'000.
