    1854 (Aug 1): 4 d. pale blue and vertical pair of 1 d. black imperforate, each with large margins all round and each with portions of adjoining stamps at left, used on 1856 linen backed envelope addressed to E. H. Sanford in Wellington, Somerset and endorsed 'Overland via Point de Galle', tied by mute obliterators in black. Oval framed 'POST OFFICE / Crown / FREEMANTLE / WESTERN AUSTRALIA' handstamp in black at left, with London (July 6) cds in red and Wellington arrival cds (July 7) on reverse. Charged '6' (pence) due on receipt. The 1 d. pair applied originally over the edge of cover and with faults concomitant to this, however a beautiful and charming cover of great scarcity.rnrnNote: The addressee, William Ayshford Sanford was Western Australia Colonial Secretary from Jan 1852-July 1855.
