    1886 (Jan 6): De La Rue hand-painted Essay for proposed 2 s. 6 d. design, marked 'D' at lower right and dated 'Jan 6th 86' at top, stamp size on thick card, 73 x 92 mm., with the Essay drawn in violet and purple including TWO SHILLINGS AND SIX PENCE and the head-plate in this colour, the central cicles, TASMANIA and POSTAGE & REVENUE being picked out in Chinese white with perforations in pencil.
