Mail from Great Britain to Greece 1867: Cover sent unpaid from London to Patras endorsed 'via Marseille by French Steamer', struck with London despatch datestamp (Dec 19), with Calais transit and struck with rare Anglo French Convention marking "F. 54" in black (Van der Linden fig. 1192) in Paris, marked in France '2' at upper left for double rate, franked on arrival with 1862/67 20 l. blue (trivial aging), 40 l. dull mauve on blued and 80 l. carmine on rose (2), all with four margins, tied by 'Patras' datestamps (Dec 18, julian) with corresponding '220' (lepta) in red crayon above - rate of 220 lepta for a letter over 7½ grams  and under 15 grams from France. A fine and very rare cover. Illustrated in 'Les Tarifs Helléniques' on page 140.rnrnNote: A strange anomaly in rates: the 1867 cover above charged 220 lepta via Marseilles for a letter up to 15 grams. However, if sent via Brindisi the same letter would have been charged 90 lepta for a letter up to 10 grams. The second route was, therefore used more frequently.
