    Turkey Ballon Monté 1870 (Oct 24): Entire letter from besieged Paris to Constantinople, Turkey franked by 1867 Laureated 80 c. bright rose-carmine tied by Paris Star in black with despatch cds alongside (Oct 24), flown on Ballon 'Le Vauban'. Reverse with two Marseille datestamps (Nov 4) and French P.O. in Constantinople arrival cds (Nov 12). Franked for pre-payment by overland route (80 c.) but carried by sea (the rate was only 40 c.). An attractive cover and a rare destination for Ballon mail.
