    1843 (Dec 28): Entire letter from Trapani, Sicily to Jacobstad, Finland struck with oval TRAPANI handstamp in red-brown on despatch, thence via Naples (Jan 5) prepaid to the Austrian border at 28 grana. Thence via Austria and Berlin where struck with superb oval JTALIEN handstamp in black (Van der Linden fig. 1828). Berlin datestamp on reverse (Jan 20) in black (and 18½ sgr. credit charged) and thence carried via Tauroggen, Tilsit and St. Petersburg to Jacobstad. Charged due at a total of 70¼ kopeks on reverse.
