    1853: 80 c. rose-carmine, horizontal tête-bêche pair, clear to large margins all round and portion of the adjoining stamp at right, used on 1861 cover endorsed 'Par Steamer Africa via Liverpool' to New York, the adhesives tied by 2706 petit chiffres with 'La Rochelle' despatch cds at left (June 5). Framed 'PD' in red alongside and the pair also tied by framed 'Br. Service' handstamp in red. On arrival of the Cunard Steamer 'Africa' struck with 'Paid / New York' cds in red (June 20) and manuscript '6' (cents) in red.
