Lot# 6196 - 205-209 Auction

1881 (Feb. 2): Registered Swiss 10 Rp. stationery envelope to Rio Nunez (French Guinea), endorsed "Cote occidentale d'Afrique / par Liverpool & Sierra Leone" franked with sitting Helvetia 15 cts. yellow and 40 cts. grey. both adhesives well perforated and centered and  fresh of colours, cancelled by "WYNIGEN 3 II 81" cds., the 15 cts. adhesive in "GENEVE 4 II 81 X-", with adjacent "CHARGÉ" handstamp in black, blue French transit mark and red "REGISTERED LONDON 7 FE 81", showing transit marks of Geneva, Paris, Liverpool and Sierra Leone on reverse. Certificate Guinand (2009).  - Envelope insufficiently franked on dispatch, the missing 15 cts. had been applied in Geneva Feb. 4) and later charged at Wynigen Post office. The correct rate was 25 cts. foreign tariff + additional 15 cts. sea rate + 25 cts for registration. A scarce overseas destination and in this combination as registered envelope an unique item.
