1852 (23. Nov.): 5c black on yellow paper, block of six from the left sheet margin on letter with partly erased address from FIURENZUOLA to BOLOGNA. The very rare block is in its original state without any repairs. It has some margin faults and is cut into at the bottom and at the top on the right hand stamp. The stamps are tied by a straight line AFFRANCATA and the FIURENZUOLA double circle in red. The stamps are gently cancelled with the red grid of FIURENZUOLA . On the reverse a BOLOGNA receiving mark in black is dated 25. Nov. This block is one of the largest entities of this stamps on cover. The attractive rarity is signed E. They are tied by a clear strike of the "PARMA" barred lozenge. A red arrival "TORINO" (11. Oct.) is applied to the reverse. Due to being stuck close to the edge, the franking shows minor signs of wear, particularly the 5c. black. A very rare mixed franking of first and third issue. The letter was despatched the day on which Duchessa Maria Luisa II was deposed and the Provisional Government installed. A fabulous letter to display the history of PARMA. The strip is from the top row of the sheet with a wide margin on top. Only the middle stamp is slightly cut into at the bottom. The strip is tied to the cover with the double circle of PIACENZA, an arrival mark MILANO (7/4) is on the reverse. One of only two recorded gutter strips, signed E. Jan.): 15c. vermillion, horizontal corner pair, cut close to just touched at top otherwise exceptional margins, tied by the FIURENZUOLA double circle in red to a letter from FIURENZUOLA to S. PIER D'ARENA. The letter bears a NOVI straight line cachet on the front and a NOVI double circle (29 Jan.) on the reverse, as well as an arrival mark the same date. 1855: (16. Mar.): 15c. vermillion, horizontal gutter pair with very good margins, cancelled three line PARMA/16/MARZO on letter from PARMA to GENUA. A black PD is set beside the franking. An arrival GENOVA single circle cachet (18. Mar) is on the reverse. The right hand stamp shows some minor brown stains, otherwise is the letter fresh and very fine. Oct.): 5c deep blue-green (verde azurro scuro) and 5c. blue-green (verde azurro) provisional Government 1859 issue first print, two horizontal pairs, right hand pair with part adjoining stamps at bottom and only just touched on left on entire letter from PARMA to PADUA. The right pair is tied by the PARMA datestamp (22. Oct. 1859). A tax mark has been applied to the front, a transit MILANO (24. Oct.) and an arrival mark PADOVA (25/10) can be found on the reverse. An immensely beautiful letter of great philatelic importance for the Provisional Government collector, it has been signed by a host of philatelic experts, beginning with Bolaffi, Enzo Diena and others. 1859 (28. Dec.) 40c. vermillion and 10c. brown, "Provisional Government", two generously margined copies on charming entire from "PARMA" to "PARIS". The stamps are tied by a single strike of the "PARMA" cds. (28.Dec.), a "PD" in black and a beautifully contrasting French transit mark "SARDAIGNE CULOZ" (31.Dec.) in red have been carefully applied to the front of the envelope. A "TORINO" (29. Dec.) transit and and arrival mark Paris complete the documentation of the handling of this extremely rare letter.
