Very rare perforation variety, with just fifteen covers recorded in the Karl Louis card index, three of which were despatched from Bristol in early February 1855.     Isle of Man THE GLASS SISTERS at the Manx Air Race 1939 (May 27/29): Hand-illustraded postcard showing the route and map of the air race, carried in the Air Race, posted at "Ronaldsway May 29" and forwarded from Douglas (May 30), signed by Mabel and Sheila Glass, the winner of the race Squadron Leader H.R. A Edwards and Alex Henschaw (2nd). In addition hand-illustrated envelope showing flag of Isle of Man flag and carried in the race held May 27th, signed by Mabel (pilot) and her sister Sheila (navigator) signed by G. de Havilland (winner), Alex Henshaw (2nd) and Edgar Percival (3rd), further two photocards signed by the 'Glass Sisters' in front of their 'Klemm'-aircraft as well as original 'sales' - letter by Francis  J. Field, the first owner of these scarce documents to C. J. Curtis. A total of only 25 covers/cards were carried by all 9 contestants. A fine and extremely rare group.rnAs a young woman, Mabel and her sister Sheila Glass took flying lessons at Heston Aerodrome, London in the 1930s. On obtaining a flying license in 1934, Mabel began racing with her sister in their mother’s De Haviland Gipsy Moth. In 1936, the sisters competed in an early race from London, England to the Isle of Man, flying alongside experienced R.A.F. and civilian pilots. In 1937, the sisters flew over 3,500 miles from London, England to Cairo, Egypt. The journey via France, Italy, and Libya in around 2 weeks.

Strange today it went by the first and only bag that left London for Windsor which contained almost only letter to the King and high officials. There were a lot ready to fly and take all the bags, only arnone fellow had the luck to start and he could take only one bag..... the other letters did not leave for two days."  Fine and scarce document.

    Crimean War 1841: 2 d. blue, pl. 4, lettered AC, used in combination with 1854 1 d. red-brown, pl. 177, wmk. Small Crown, perf. 16 on 1854 cover endorsed "From the Black Sea Fleet" on crested envelope of "HMS Terrible", tied by blurred "O*O" obliterators in black, presumably from an Officer as there is a further '3' pence charge at left. Manuscript beneath the adhesives "Dec 7, Kayatch Bay" and arrival date "Dec 24, 1854". Reverse with "Post Office / British Army" cds and Alcester arrival in red. The 1 d. with rounded corner but the 2 d. with portion of adjoining stamp at base proving the stamp to be imperforate: an exceedingly rare combination.     1840/1964: Beautiful collection in four volumes, beginning with a fine section of the 1840 1d black with six four margin copies and a very fine 1d plate 1a lettered DE on cover dated JU 24 1840. The collection also contains a very fine 1840 2d blue, a good run of 1d brown, here with shades, ivory head and other specialities. 1847 1/- green with a block of four! cancelled 466 of LIVERPOOL, with some minor imperfections but a very rare unit. Later surface printed items contain a letter from IVYBRIDGE to NEW BRUNSWICK, a great run of surface printed issues, many with good cds cancellations. The collection contains 1874 5/- pale rose plate 2 with London cds, the 1878 10/- greenish grey and two! 1878 plate 1 £1 brown-lilac. A 5/- rose 1883 on slightly blueish paper is neatly cancelled CAHIR dated JY25 85. The 1884 £1 lilac wmk crowns is delightfully cancelled EDINBURGH, the 1891 £1 green bears a neat JERSEY cds. KEVII issues include a fine pair £1 green cancelled GUERNSEY ST. PETER PORT. KGV includes £1 seahorse green, £1 UPU and others  QEII contains high values, good phosphors and many better FDC. A valuable lot.

    1863/86: Mulready 2 d. facsimile envelopes (2), one used in 1863 by Stafford H. Smith stamp dealer from Bath, franked by 1 d. red star tied by "Bath / 53" duplex addressed to Dr. C.W. Viner - a founder of the Royal Philatelic Society - in Pimlico, London, the stamp creased (very rare, just five similiar recorded in Karl Louis Card Index); and an 1886 usage in the USA with 1883 2 c. brown tied by San Francisco duplex mailed to Virginia with E.F. Gambs / Stamp Dealer cachet on reverse. An unusual pair.rnNote: Dr. C.W. Viner (1813-1907) was a pioneer collector beginning his collection in 1860.
