Recess by Nissen & Parker 1862 6 d. grey-lilac on greyish paper in a vertical pair used on 1865 cover to London with manuscript '11' (pence) credit marking in red crayon at left, tied by two fine strikes of the "A09" obliterator in black. Reverse with NEVIS double arc cds of despatch (July 11) and 'London / Paid' arrival on front (July 29) in red. A superb and an extremely rare first issue cover.

"New York / Due 10 Cts." charge marking of arrival (July 30) alongside. Reverse with 'St. Thomas' transit cds (July 15). Recess on White Paper 1867/76: 4 d. deep orange on white paper, perf. 15, a used example on 1869 cover to Philadelphia, USA endorsed 'per Steamer' at top, neatly tied by "A09" obliterator in black with "N.Y. STEAMSHIP / 10" charge marking of arrival (April 26) alongside. Reverse with double arc 'Nevis' despatch cds (March 27), single ring 'St. Thomas' cds (March 28) and Philadelphia arrival in blue. Recess on White Paper 1867/76: Recess 1 s. yellow-green on vertically laid paper, perf. 15, a used example centred to right, position 9 on sheet showing "Crossed Lines on Hill", lightly cancelled in black by "A09" obliterator leaving the variety relatively clear. Just 36 stamps (three sheets) are believed to have been printed on the laid paper and are only known used. 17 examples are recorded to date, thus just 3 examples of this variety can exist. The adjoining stamp to this example is housed in the collection of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. An exceptional rarity of British Colonial philately. Cert. Lithographed by Transfer 1871/78: Lithographed 1 s. pale green, an unused horizontal strip of three from base of the sheet of twelve subjects, position 10-12, sheet margins on the three sides, variety "Imperforate Between", of fine fresh colour, typical browned gum and hinged for protection, an exceedingly rare strip - just one sheet of twelve was found thus, leaving but four strips known with this variety: one ex the Watson Yuile collection, another, the adjoining strip above this positions 7-9 is housed in the collection of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
