1859/1875: Collection of forty-seven 'insufficiently prepaid' letters from Great-Briatin to France originating from all parts of Britain written up on self made pages.. The collection contains both a correctly franked item erroneously treated as "INSUFFICIENTLY PREPAID", as well as underfranked letters. This collection demonstrates the postal practices of cancelling erroneous markings, mainly with barred "50" in black or red ink, later with other cachets. Due to the French weight progressions being different than in the UK, errors happened quite frequently. In cases of doubt items were reweighed and the underpayment markings were already applied before mail left London for the continent. Letters in this collection bear frankings of up to 9 d. in total, the majority being 4 d., made up of line-engraved and surface printed stamps. The condition is mixed as could be expected. An instructive and varied lot with much interest.Ausruf : 1.000 CHFZuschlag : 1.000 CHFLosnr. : 4806 Div. Brit. Kolonien Lots/Slg.
