1856 (May 15): Cover and complete contents (with transcript) from a sailor in Coronel to Rhode Island, USA struck on arrival with "Steamship / 20" in black. Interesting contents concerning the writer's time in the Chilean Navy "I was in the Chilean Navy with Lord Cochrane in the heat of the war with Spain and I still have considerable claims on this government from that time. You must know I was taken prisoner with Captain Wicks in the ship 'Louisa' of Providence in 1820 and detained by his lordship until the Spanish were driven from Peru. I was well treated by Cochrane....I was well acquainted with Commander King and Capt. Robert Fitzroy of the English surveying expedition....".rnrnNote: Vice-Admiral Robert FitzRoy FRS was an English officer of the Royal Navy and a scientist. He achieved lasting fame as the Captain of HMS Beagle during Charles Darwin's famous voyage, FitzRoy's second expedition to Tierra del Fuego.

Prussian blue, Second Stone, the superb mint top marginal strip of five, positions 3-7 on the sheet of 55 subjects; tiny thin between first and second stamps, usual slight creasing and minute scissor cut just into fifth stamp, of excellent colour and large part original gum. An outstanding positional piece, a delightful multiple and extremely rare.rnrnProvenance: Collection Hugo Goeggel, Corinphila sale 178, 27 Feb 2013, lot 4311.

1859: 1 p. carmine, a used horizontal strip of three, imperceptibly touched at lower left to large margins, minor diagonal bend but of wonderful vibrant colour, neatly cancelled by large part strikes of BOGOTÁ Opera glass handstamps in black. Exceptionally rare - when offered by Siegel pronounced as the "only used multiple of the first issue 1 peso large than a pair", this being the largest used multiple showing a cancellation; the Goeggel collection did, however boast a manuscript cancelled strip of three (Corinphila, sale 178, 27 Feb 2013,  lot 4327).
