1875 (July 1): Combination cover from Beirut to Glarus, Switzerland, mailed on the First Day of the UPU, franked by Great Britain 1875/76 2½ d. rosy mauve pl. 1 tied by three bold strikes of the "G06" obliterator with 'British Post Office / Beyrout' cds in black alongside (July 1, code C) paying rate to Alexandria and France Ceres 1871/75 30 c. grey-brown, eight examples for 2 fr. 40 c. triple rate all tied by "5080" gros chiffres in black with 'Alexandrie / Egypte' cds below (July 5). Slit for disinfection on front panel, reverse with British P.O. 'Alexandria' cds and Glarus arrival cds (July 14). Some overall aging but a spectacular and unique franking. 1873 (June 6): Great Britain 1858/69 2 d. blue pl. 14 in a vertical pair and 1867 10 d. red-brown, two examples, used on 1873 double rate cover from Beirut to New York tied by four strikes of the "G06" obliterator with 'British Post Office / Beyrout' cds alongside in black (June 6). 'London / Paid' transit cds (June 18) in red and 'New York / Paid All' arrival with '4' (cents) credit mark in manuscript. Reverse with 'Alexandria' transit cds (June 9). 1876 (July 13): Combination cover from Beirut to Lyon, France franked by Great Britain 1876 2½ d. rosy mauve pl. 3 tied by bold "G06" obliterator with 'British Post Office / Beyrout' cds in black alongside (July 13, code A) paying rate to Alexandria and France Ceres 1871/75 5 c. green and 25 c. blue, rounded corner perf., all tied by "ALEXANDRIE / EGYPTE" datestamps in black (July 17). Circular 'Paq. Ang. v. Brind / A Modane' cds also on obverse (July 23) in red. Reverse with British P.O. Alexandria transit (July 17) and Lyon arrival (July 24). A delightfully attractive and rare entire. 1874 (May 9): Great Britain 1867 10 d. red-brown in a deep shade, used on 1874 cover from Damascus to Bristol endorsed 'Inghiltera via Brindisi', tied by bold strike of "G06" obliterator with superb "BRITISH POST OFFICE / BEYROUT" cds adjacent (May 14, code C) in black. Thin paper envelope with minor abrasions, Bristol arrival cds on reverse (May 25) and manuscript "May 9th, Damascus". 1864 (Nov 30): Great Britain 1862 6 d. lilac and 1 s. green in a horizontal pair, used on 1864 registered cover from Constantinople to Mullingar, Ireland tied by three strikes of the "C" in bars obliterator with straight line REGISTERED alongside in red. 'Registered / London' oval transit (Dec 8) and 'British Post Office / Constantinople' cds in blue of despatch (Nov 30) on reverse. 1872 (Oct 16): Great Britain 1867 10 d. red-brown, single example used on 1872 cover from Constantinople to Tunis addressed in Arabic 'With the Almighty's Grace, to Tunis, the city under God's protection, to be placed in the hands of the highly esteemed, benevolent and beloved Sidi Mohamed al Khulassi, whom Allah preserve' tied by "C" in bars obliterator with 'British Post Office / Constantinople' cds in red (Oct 16) and Malta transit cds (Oct 25) in black. 1868 (Dec 2): Great Britain 1867 10 d. red-brown used in astonishing combination with 1867 2 s. blue, two single examples and an immaculate block of eight (2 x 4) lettered BA-BB/EA-EB, on registered 1868 cover from Constantinople to London (addressed to Messrs. Kennet & Spink) all tied by twelve strikes of the "C" in bars obliterator with straight line "REGISTERED" handstamp in red alongside. The two single 2 s. blue with pulled perfs. and two side flaps missing but showing 'British Post Office / Constantinople' cds in blue on reverse (Dec 2) and oval framed "Registered / London" arrival datestamp (Dec 10). An outstanding cover and a major Exhibition piece for both Great Britain and Turkish philately as can be attested when one sees the provenances below.rnProvenance: Collection E.E.
