1865 (Aug 16): Cover with complete contents written from Valparaiso to San Francisco, prepaid ‘1s.’ in red crayon manuscript, with double arc Valparaiso cds of British P.O. on reverse (Aug 17) in black, carried via British Post Office in PANAMA with double arc datestamp in black (Sept 4). Trans-shipped there with oval framed STEAM / PANAMA in black and San Francisco arrival cds (Sept 25) and charged 10 c. for Ship fee. 1854: Gillet 5 c. burnt sienna, a fine large margined example with portion of adjoining stamp at right, overlapping Gillet Lithographed 5 c. chesnut-brown in a horizontal pair, large margins for the issue with portion of adjoining stamp at right tied by target handstamp in black, on 1855 cover from Valparaiso to France with PANAMA / TRANSIT in red on front and reverse with British P.O. Valparaiso cds and London transit cds (Sept 18) in black. Charged due on receipt with handstruck '21' décime charge marking. A very rare mixture of the Gillet printings on a most attractive cover. Carried on the PSNC Steamer ‘Potosi’ via the Magellan Straits with hooded Hamburg arrival cds (April 15) in black.
