    1865 (Aug 16): Cover with complete contents written from Valparaiso to San Francisco, prepaid ‘1s.’ in red crayon manuscript, with double arc Valparaiso cds of British P.O. on reverse (Aug 17) in black, carried via British Post Office in PANAMA with double arc datestamp in black (Sept 4). Trans-shipped there with oval framed STEAM / PANAMA in black and San Francisco arrival cds (Sept 25) and charged 10 c. for Ship fee. Slight trim to envelope at right but a scarce West Coast cover.rn
