Apart 1914 (Oct 17): 1 s. on 1 m. carmine, Setting 5A, position type 4, a fine unused example showing variety "Large "S" from different font in 1s.", with the characteristic small void in the top left of the "R" in GRI. The stamp of good colour but centred slightly to left and with minor hinge thin not appearent on face, with large part, somewhat dried og. Gibbs records just 4 unused and no used examples (page 69), this being the example illustrated in Gibbs on page 71. Just 113 of the 2 mark values were overprinted. Some paper adherence and thin not affecting the appearance of an extremely rare variety - see Gibbs 17e on page 76 of the handbook, where he records just the one unused example in the collection of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and two used examples, however it is now believed that four are known. Apart 1914 (Dec 16): 2 d. on 20 pf. ultramarine, Setting 2, position 5, the extraordinary unused vertical pair, marginal from top right hand corner of the sheet, with upper stamp "GRI / 2 d." and the lower stamp se-tenant with error of surcharge "GRI / 2½ d.", the pair somewhat dried and slightly soiled due to 'Blitz' damage, with two minor bends mentioned for accuracy and dried large part og. A fantastic and extremely rare pair, just three unused pairs are recorded (all with 2 d. above the 2½ d.), one housed in the collection of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the other (the adjoining pair) was in the Gibbs collection and the third pair is offered here.
