    1871/75: Napoleon laureated 4 c. grey, single used on superb Printed Matter poster, tied by Lyon datestamp, the poster advertising for the manufacture and sale of handstamps: including Military, Regimental and Officer's handstamps (6 different types illustrated in the poster), also illustrations of the handstamps as manufactured. A marvellous item for the Postal Historian.

    1846/71: Lot three covers incl. 1846 stampless envelope from Paris to Bordeaux that took 14 years to arrive at destination, 25 c. blue Empire on cover to Troyes tied by Paris Star in black, and 1871 Cérès 25 c. blue on entire letter from Charleville to Metz in combination with 1870 Alsace Lorraine 10 c. bistre brown (network up) tied by gros chiffres and manuscript blue crayon cross. A fine lot.

    1776: A very rare compl. letter sheet dated 'Mulhouse 29. April 1776' and addressed to Langensalza in Prussia (Dept. Erfurt), bearing on front side top right a very clear strike of the circular cachet with rose shaped ornament PORT PAYE D'HABSHEIM (Alsace) in black as well as two tax remarks in red pencil and one in black ink, for more information see incl. clips from the BBZ regarding the post office in Habsheim.

    1827/1918: Interesting selection 'Alsace' and 'French-Prussian war', lot 38 cards and covers starting with some forerunners, furthermore better frankings and cancellations, six covers addressed to France and delivered for despatch in Basel/CH, one Ballon Monté etc., in addition 24 selected stamps unused (3) as well as used (21), the later mainly German Reich Imperial Eagle on piece, partly with horse shoe cancellations, the whole lot in very good condition and housed in a small box.

    1870 (Oct 14): Entire letter flown on Ballon Monté 'Jules Favre 1' or 'Jean Bart 2', franked by pair of 1867 20 c. blue tied by Paris Star cancellations with Rue Taibout cds alongside. Red framed "PD" below and reverse with Mareseille transit cds (Oct 22) and French P.O. in Alexandria arrival (Oct 28) cds. Opens well for display to exhibit arrival, a rare and fine entire to a most unusual destination Lhéritier handbook 2000 = € 6'900.

    1870 (Nov 16): Ballon Monté with mixed issue franking of 1867 20 c. blue and 1871 10 c. bistre, mailed to Scotland and tied by Paris Star '8' cancellations with red framed "PD" alongside, flown on the Ballon No. 30 "Le Général Uhrich" with Paisley arrival cds (Nov 24) on reverse. Interesting content regarding lack of news from outside Paris and that the writer would be home once peace had been declared. A fresh and fine cover Lhéritier handbook 2000 = € 3'800.

    1870 (Nov 6): Gazette 'Des Absents' No. 5, a used example witth additional letter inserted mailed to Prince Ladislav Czartoryski in Weinhaus, Vienna (Nov 14) and re-addressed to Cracow / Poland, the adhesives (two 1867 30 c.) have been removed as the letter appears to have been smuggled out of Paris, with datestamps only of Wahring (Nov 14), Vienna (two) and Krakau arrival (Nov 15). A most unusual entire Lhéritier handbook 2000 = € 18'300/Maury 2011 = € 25'000.

    1870 (Nov 13): Gazette 'Des Absents' No. 7 together with a letter, a fine used example to Prince Ladislav Czartoryski in Weinhaus, Vienna and forwarded to Pesth / Hungary, franked by 1867 30 c. bistre brown (2) tied by "Paris / R. Cardinal-Lemoine" datestamps in black, flown on Ballon No. 30 'Général Uhrich'. Originally addressed to Vienna and re-addressed from there on arrival (Dec 4) to Pesth (Dec 5). A delightful and extremely rare Ballon to a most unusual destination Lhéritier handbook 2000 = € 21'300.
