This balloon was the secondlast balloon which left Paris and the second balloon which shipwrecked in the Atlantic Ocean nearby Ile de Ré which explains the poor condition of the cover. Cert. (Russian writer), further two picture postcards depicting the ship 'Pourquoi-Pas' and the Crew of the French Antarctic Expedition together with 1995 French-Greenland commemorative issue miniature sheet and booklet.
Note: Charcot, was a French scientist, medical doctor and appointed leader of the French Antarctic Expedition with the ship Français exploring the west coast of Graham Land from 1904 until 1907. 1850: 45 c. slate-blue, type II on hand-made paper in a block of four plus single, all tied by CREMA 7/7 datestamp to fragment of a registered letter with on reverse an additional 30 c. brown, type I on hand-made paper (corner cut away) for the registration, tied by two crossed strikes of one-line RACCOMANDATA. All the stamps were removed for quality control and replaced with hinges in their original positions, the rare block of four is touched at top while the other three margins are good to large.
