    Lot# : 2374 Labuan

1865: The famous cover front to Manila, Philippines franked by India 1856/64 4 a. black (three examples) used in combination with Hong Kong 1862/63 8 c. yellow-buff single and pair, with exceptional strike of circular LABUAN datestamp (March 4) in black (Proud D1) at lower left, the adhesives being tied by circular dotted obliterators (Proud K1) in black. Handstruck '2' (reales) applied as amount due on arrival in Manila in black. Faults as are to be expected as this was probably the front of a large parcel (or a 6 times rate cover) but this remains the sole intact example of an India / Hong Kong combination usage from Labuan. A great rarity of British Commonwealth and Asian Postal History.
